MALLARD EDITING - ABOUT KELLY MAILLIARD

Before I can say anything about myself, it’s important I admit my love for puzzles. To stitch together the pieces of a larger image truly formed the basis of my interests, and I slowly discovered how to amplify the beautiful details often overlooked. When we’re using media to depict humanity, sentimental editing requires the realistic portrayal of the human experience: what is it to be part of the puzzle?

A graduate from the University of Texas at Austin's Radio-Television-Film program, as well as a French minor, I discovered my passion for video editing as well as film studies, specifically with a focus on intersectionality and diversity in media. One of my most treasured experiences involved working directly with a local queer organization for people of color in order to direct and produce a documentary highlighting the East Austin, Texas community. Alongside a variety of opportunities spanning pre- to post-production, I learned about broadcasting and teamwork with the Austin Film Festival, until making the post-grad move to the city of Los Angeles to pursue film editing entirely. I found the beginnings to my career with global advertising through several companies - notably editing for the events department at Google Developer Studio.

Operating through the events and marketing division of GDS, I demonstrated evocative techniques in the video production of numerous internationally-acclaimed conferences reviewing product innovations for technology developers, such as Smart Home Summit 2021, Firebase Summit 2021, and Google I/O 2021 and 2022. The ambition to organize industry professionals around Google resources relied on embracing familiar attendees as well as enticing unconventional audiences. Particularly considering the global potential of virtual conferencing, I compiled media of a universal nature that would inspire as many viewers as possible, including releasing ASL-translated panel discussions on diversity in technology. By reinvention of commercial expectations, I crafted persuasive promotional material, utilizing cultural charisma to attract larger, diverse audiences. Responsible for coordinating this and more, I diligently helped coordinate the distribution of over 100 videos during the tentpole event of the year, additionally facilitating the training and managing of a post-production team in less than three weeks. The advertising and live-event production work accomplished at Google Developer Studio introduced younger generations to the burgeoning capabilities of technological development, balancing elements of successful tradition with a distinct approach.

After London was my home for a short time, I have returned to the U.S. where I am eager for projects to come! When I’m not binging a nostalgic TV show, I learn the bass, practice my French, or cook a family recipe.
